Haro Turbine Instruction/Assembly

Congratulations on your purchase of the Haro Turbine Freecoaster hub. Like any hub, the Turbine requires occasional maintenance. These instructions will guide you through the disassembly and assembly of your hub.

So, how often should you do this? As with anything, the better you take care of it and the better you maintain it the longer it will last. If you ride at least 3-4 times a week we suggest cleaning and regreasing the hub once every four months. If you are a weekend warrior, an annual cleaning and greasing is all that should be needed. If you are an aspiring pro and ride 8 hours a day, you had better clean and regrease it every 8 weeks just to be safe.

  1. Remove locknuts/adjusting nuts. If necessary, hold the adjusting nut with a 19mm cone wrench while removing the outside locknut.
  2. Tap on left side of axle to remove axle (far right bearing will/should pop out with axle). DO NOT use a regular hammer to do this. Use a rubber hammer or a block of wood and a hammer. Be careful not to damage the threads on the axle.
  3. Turn driver counter-clockwise to remove.
  4. Use axle to push out left side bearing. You should be able to push the bearing out by hand. If more pressure is required, tap out with small hammer and long punch being careful not to damage rubber seal.
  5. When bearing comes out, a set of spacers should also fall out.
  6. Clutch should also fall out with spacers. The springs mount inside clutch between axle and inside of clutch.

Everything is now removed from hub. Clean, inspect and reassemble in reverse order.

  1. Drop clutch into hub shell from left side. Put a light coating of grease onto outside surface of clutch.
  2. Thread driver into clutch. Driver should also have a light coating of grease on the threads.
  3. Install axle with right side bearing into/through driver. The bearing should be flush with the driver’s edge.
  4. From the left side, install the springs in the space around the axle and inside the clutch. They are tight, so a thin, flat-blade screwdriver can be used to manipulate the springs carefully into place. Be careful not to damage any internal parts. There should be a light coating of grease around the axle and inside the clutch where the springs are installed.
  5.

  6. Drop washers (position as shown) over axle from left side.
  7. Push left side bearing into axle. Both the left side bearing and right side bearing should be flush with the shell and driver.
  8. Install and adjust adjusting/lock nuts. Do not over tighten. They should be just tight enough to hold everything together with your axle spinning smooth with no excess play.
